ROSELLE - Azavar Technologies Corp. of Chicago will conduct an audit of the village's utility services to ensure each company is collecting and remitting proper taxes to the village.
"The company will separately audit the electric, gas and telecommunications, and recover past taxes that were not properly attributed to the village, and determine future taxes owed to Roselle," said Director of Finance Pam Figolah.
Each audit is expected to take six months. Figolah said Azavar may find a utility company collecting taxes from non-residents.
"They are more likely to find property that annexed into the village and the utility company has not changed its records," Figolah said.
Payment for the company will be on a contingency basis, with Azavar receiving 45 percent of all past due fees recovered. Figolah said a neighboring community using the same auditing service found $50,000 in missed tax collections last year.
The first audit is scheduled to begin in February.
